Lady Gaga Stirs Up Controversy With “Judas”

Yesterday, billions of Lady Gaga fans wet their pants when their Mother Monster “surprisingly” released the second single, “Judas,” from her soon-to-be released third album. The lyrics consist of Lady Gaga (who may be representing Mary Magdelene) confessing her love for Judas – a Biblical reference to the man who betrayed Jesus.

According to this Huffington Post article, the “suggestive lyrics have angered some including The Catholic League” ..even though they apparently issued the complaint without even hearing the song and only because of the song title.

So this was “leaked” / intentionally released only a little more than a week before the important Christian holiday of Easter – the day when Jesus arose from the dead (death caused by Judas, btw). Well-planned and intentional publicity stunt mean to stir controversy and gain attention? Yea, of course. But that’s okay.. because the song rocks!

Trust me- I’m 100% in support of gay rights and respect. But “Born This Way” was disappointing to me. It does occasionally get stuck in my head.. but I really just don’t feel it. I dunno.. maybe it’s because I can’t shake ass to it like I could with “Poker Face” or “Just Dance” or “Telephone.” But Judas- this song gives me hope for the rest of the album. It’s electro rock mixed with Gaga’s unique (but stellar) vocal performance. In parts, (especially the chorus) it does sound a lot like “Bad Romance” – but that’s all the more reason to like it.

My friend Kobi posted this literal disco stick on his Facebook wall with the caption: “If Lady Gaga had a penis… this is what it would look like.” For visualization’s sake, and since I’m on the subject of her.. I had Dezzi make this picture of what it would look like attached to the Father Mother Monster.

Some song lyrics:

“In the most Biblical sense,
I am beyond repentance
Fame hooker, prostitute wench, vomits her mind
But in the cultural sense
I just speak in future tense
Judas kiss me if offenced,
Or wear an ear condom next time

I wanna love you,
But something’s pulling me away from you
Jesus is my virtue,
And Judas is the demon I cling to
I cling to

I’m just a Holy Fool, oh baby he’s so cruel
But still I’m in love with Judas, baby”

“Born This Way” hits stores May 23rd.
